Southern
All-Stars Rock into Smoky Mountain on April 17
(April
12, 2021) The Southern All-Stars series returns to Smoky
Mountain Speedway for the Rockin’ with the Stars presented
by Classic Rock 103.5 WIMZ on Saturday, April 17. The oldest dirt
late model touring series will roll into town for a $5,000 to
win race. Defending series champion Billy Franklin heads into
Smoky Mountain Speedway looking to repeat his series title. Rookie
of the Year candidate Payton Freeman currently sits atop the series
standings. Other drivers expected are Dale McDowell, Donald McIntosh,
Mark Dodson, Sam Seawright, Robby Moses, Tommy Kerr, and more.
It will also be the debut of the North Carolina-based Steel Block
Bandits that will also be competing for $5,000 to win. Some of
the best limited late model drivers from the Carolinas will drive
over the mountain to go against the area’s best such as
Skip Arp, Chase King, Kyle Courtney, Bobby Giffin, and more.
Also, in action will be the sportsman late models for $1,000
to win and the front wheel drive cars for $500 to win. There is
also ladies’ wheelbarrow racing. Teams of two will race
for $100 courtesy InsideDirtRacing.com. Teams can sign up at the
pavilion on race day.
Pit gates will open at 2:00. Grandstand and tier parking gates
open at 3:00 The drivers meeting is set for 5:45. Hot laps, time
trials, and racing action will begin at 6:00. Grandstand ticket
prices are $25 for adults, kids 11 and under are free. Tier parking
tickets are $40 for adults, kids 11 and under are free. Pit passes
are $40 for adults, kids 11 and under are $20.
There will be an open practice on Friday, April 16 for any division.
Pit gates open at 5:00 and the practice will be 6:00-9:00. Pit
admission is $20 for adults, $10 for kids 11 and under. Tier parking
will be open for free. The main grandstand will be closed.
Smoky Mountain Speedway is located 12 miles south of Maryville,
Tennessee. From Maryville, take Highway 411 south for 10 miles
and turn left onto Brick Mill Road. Follow Brick Mill Road for
approximately 2 miles, the racetrack is on the right. The first
entrance is for grandstand parking. The second entrance is for
tier parking and campground access. The pit entrance is the next
right on Crye Road.
