Kyle Courtney
Holds Off Mike Marlar for Thanksgiving Thunder Win
(November
22, 2025) The second annual Thanksgiving Thunder saw
182 cars make their way to Smoky Mountain Speedway and were greeted
with beautiful weather. Kyle Courtney held off Mike Marlar in
the closing laps in taking the late model win. (MRM

Courtney started on the outside front row with Bobby Giffin
starting from the pole position. Courtney grabbed the lead and
began to put some distance on Giffin. As the leaders encountered
slower traffic, Giffin closed to Courtney’s rear bumper.
Marlar took over third and began to chase down the lead duo. A
late race caution allowed Marlar to shoot by on the outside to
take second from Giffin. Marlar chased down Courtney and looked
for a way to take the lead. Courtney held on to win and collect
$2,500 for his efforts.
Jesse Lowe lead from flag-to-flag to win the sportsman late
model feature. Lowe took the lead over Colby Horner on the start
and never looked back. Jed Emert finished third.
Kirk Turner held off Colton Proffitt to win the Cumberland Plateau
Open Wheel Modified Series race. Proffitt got by Corey Gordon
for second and ran down Turner. Proffitt could not find a way
around Turner who took the win. Gordon held off Jacob Hall to
finish third.
Michael Courtney went unchallenged in winning the Cumberland
Plateau Modified Mini feature. Courtney maintained a comfortable
margin as Andy Standridge and Hayston Collett battled for second.
Standridge took second over Collett.
Ronnie Choate came from second place to win the Tennessee Mod
Lite race. Choate grabbed the lead from Shane McCarron and never
looked back. Jaedon McDowell came from 11th to finish third.
Eric Hughes kept it in the family by winning the street stock
feature over Johnny Hughes. The top 5 cars spent most of the race
using different lines to have some intense battles. Colby Long
used the low line to finish third.
Dustin Duncan picked up another win in the front wheel drive
division. Jacob Sharp stayed close with Duncan through most of
the race but hand nothing to mount a serious bid for the lead.
Jason Ketron finish third.
Joseph McGill took the lead from pole sitter Scott Randolph
to win the Crown Vic feature. Josh Brogdon avoided calamity to
finish second. Amber Kilpatrick came from 14th to finish third.
This concludes the 2025 race season at Smoky Mountain Speedway.
The next scheduled event will be Saturday, March 14 with the World
of Outlaws Late Model Series returns. Details for the race and
the complete schedule will be coming soon.
