Skylar
Marlar Takes Saturday Night Shootout Win
(June
28, 2025) Skylar Marlar came out on top in Saturday’s
Mountain Late Model feature. Marlar inherited the lead when race
leader David Crabtree fell out of the race with mechanical issues
on lap 17. Marlar held off a charging Booger Brooks in the closing
laps to secure the win. Jed Emert had back-and-forth battles with
several drivers to secure a third place finish. Tyler Price held
on to fourth while Bobby Giffin came from 9th to finish 5th. (MRM

Colby Horner grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and never
looked back in taking the sportsman late model win. Mitchell Childress
pressured Horner late but was unable to get alongside Horner to
mount a serious challenge. Jason Welshan finished third.
The street stock feature saw a battle between pole sitter Austin
Byrd and Robbie Comer through most of the 20-lap race. Comer took
the initial lead with Byrd to the inside looking to get past Comer.
Comer fought off Byrd after the first four laps to be out front.
Byrd stayed within two car-lengths through most of the race. Comer
was too smooth to allow Byrd to challenge in taking the win.
It was the Dustin Duncan show in the front wheel drive feature.
Duncan was a late arrival and had to start last of the 11 cars
that signed in. When the race started, Duncan passed four cars
heading into turn 1. Duncan picked off more cars on the next two
laps to move into second. Duncan passed Josh Chastain for the
lead and motored away for the win. Chastain finished second and
Colton Keasler outdueled two other cars to finish third.
The next race at Smoky Mountain Speedway will be Saturday, July
19 when the Cumberland Plateau Open Wheel Modified Series visits
for a $2,000 to win race.
